Hermann Hernstein Early Civil War Cased Trephine Set - U.S.A. Hospital Department
USA Hospital Department Early Civil War Trephine cased set by Hermann Hernstein H Hernstein was a major contract supplier during the war. See other Hernstein sugery sets on this site for addresses and years of manufacture. This example is an earlier manufacture circa 1860. Overall condition is excellent and near new with little use. It has a brass bound mahagony case with crown style trephines and brass plaque label with USA(United States Army). Lock system is traditional key lock. Comparing this set to the other Hernstein Trephine set on this site shows the change from early to late in the war.
