Small USA Hospital Department dissecting and postmortem set by Kern: Heratio G Kern was surgical instrument maker in Philadelphia during the war. His civil war address was 25 N. 6th street from 1860-1870. During the war the Union army purchased (slightly over 300) small dissection sets for postmortem exams. Interesting specimens were then removed and sent to Washington for study and education. Here is a good example of such a set by Heratio Kern complete with address label.
